A horrendous thing happened to the CBS News’ Chief Foreign Affairs correspondent Lara Logan. When covering the political tidal wave in Egypt she and her crew were in Tahrir Square when former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down. During the chaos that was that evening, Lara Logan was brutally attacked and raped. A horrific thing to happen but thankfully she was saved by a group of women and members of the military.
CBS issued the statement saying, ” In the crush of the mob, [Logan] was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.”
As the news of her ordeal spread, her peers in the news community took to Twitter to send messages of their support, thoughts and their prayers, like Anderson Cooper, who himself was attacked (albeit much much less severely) while in Egypt. See what they had to say here:
“Sickened and saddened by the attack on Lara Logan. She is in all of our thoughts and prayers.”
“All of us wish CBS intrepid correspondent Lara Logan speedy recovery after CBS announcement of her ordeal in Egypt.”
Bravo’s Andy Cohen retweeted the message “All thoughts are with Lara Logan, and with our friends and extended family @CBSNews”
