Did Bristol Palin go too far in her desire for reality-show fame?
Although she said recently that she lets herself be filmed to help “provide for my son” - that would be three-year-old Tripp – it may have helped reopen an old battle between herself and ex Levi Johnston.
Levi tells TMZ that after seeing an episode of Bristol Palin: Life’s a Tripp, he’s convinced he would make a better full-time parent to his son than the daughter of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin.
The show featured Tripp acting up, talking back and calling his aunt a word that may or may not have been a curse. Even Bristol admitted, “I’m doing a terrible job disciplining Tripp.” It “disgusted” Levi, who says that his son is getting “no real parenting.”
The former oil-field worker and would-be model went to the Wasilla, Alaska, courthouse last week to pick up paperwork requesting sole custody of the boy, which he plans to file immediately.
“I love my son more than anything…and I will do whatever it takes to make sure he is raised the right way,” he told the entertainment site.
But how likely is it that Levi’s petition will be granted?
Not very. Bristol may not be a perfect mom, but Levi hasn’t exactly been a paragon of virtue himself. Sources say he hasn’t paid child support in several years, and that the money he earned from TV appearances and the book he wrote last year was quickly spent on vehicles and guns. He also reportedly doesn’t see his son very often.
A family court judge probably won’t think too highly of Levi’s decision to appear in Playgirl, or of the slimy accusations he’s hurled at the Palins over the years. He’s apologized for them, then taken back the apologies because he was afraid people would think he lied.
And to top it off, Levi is expecting a baby soon with his new girlfriend – a girl they’ve already named Breeze Beretta. Can the young couple really handle the needs of a newborn and a three-year-old newly removed from his mother’s home? If Tripp is running wild under Bristol’s care, just imagine how much he’d act up under the stress and grief of leaving his mom and moving hundreds of miles away from his new L.A. digs.
No, this probably won’t amount to anything other than a few headlines and more hassle for both Bristol and Levi. But maybe this should be a warning sign to Bristol to keep her family life out of the cameras for a while and stick to Dancing With the Stars.
What do you think? Should Levi get custody?
