Lisa Marie Presley to Oprah: I Think I Could Have Saved Michael Jackson From Drug Use

By Mara Siegler |

Lisa Marie Presley went on Oprah to talk about her life. She is coming out with a new album and knows that she will have to do press. She chose to go on the show to talk about her marriage to Michael Jackson and his death to try and get it out of the way, though I am sure she will still be hounded by questions about it.

Lisa opens the interview discussing how she chose to move her children out of LA after seeing all the pressure put on looks and how stars dress. Then, with some prodding from the Big O, she launched into her marriage to Michael Jackson and her reaction to his death. At a particularly emotional part, Lisa Marie discusses Michael’s drug use and how she feels like she could have helped him.

This portion of the video starts around 11:00. She recalls a time when Michael collapsed and spent 6 days in the hospital in 1994. Doctors thought it was a viral infection though each day she says there was a different report from exhaustion to dehydration.  She was confused but had a sense that he was on drugs.

I was impressed with her honesty. She is purging the past and moving on. This was a great start. Hats off to Oprah.
