A survivor indeed!
At 50, music idol Sheryl Crow has been through not one, but two health ordeals in just a short time. In 2006, she was diagnosed with breast cancer; fortunately, it was caught at an early stage and was treatable with minimal surgery and radiation. The rocker then embarked on a health regimen that included a diet rich in vegetables and fruit.
Then this summer, the rocker announced that she had been diagnosed with a rare brain tumor known as a meningioma. Fortunately, this type of tumor occurs outside the brain and is benign, though it has to be monitored closely with MRIs and may need surgery to remove.
Although meningiomas are linked to breast cancer, Crow told Katie Couric on her new talk show today that she has a different theory about what caused hers. “I [used to spend] hours on the old archaic cell phones,” she said, adding that the tumor is located near the area where she held her phone.
Later that day, Crow went out to lunch in Manhattan with her older son, Wyatt, who looked delighted to be out with his mom. (Younger son Levi, 2, wasn’t with them.) Despite her belief that cell phone radiation caused her latest illness, she was seen talking on her iPhone. Either she uses it very rarely now, or else she feels assured that newer phone models pose less of a risk.
The courageous mom of two looked terrific – slender and casually chic in striped top and jeans – and Wyatt is as cute as the proverbial button.
Crow thanked her fans on Facebook for their support, assuring them, “I’m good – really!”
