Madonna Isn't the World's Only Material Girl
Note to Madonna - you’re not the only Material Girl in the world. At least that’s what a California clothing company thinks.
Music maven and style icon Madonna is being sued over her use of her iconic nickname, Material Girl, for the upcoming juniors clothing line that she has designed with daughter Lourdes. A Los Angeles based clothing manufacturer, LA Triumph, has filed a lawsuit claiming that it owns the rights to the Material Girl name.
Madonna and Lourdes’ line has been garnering widespread attention due to a high profile marketing campaign featuring Gossip Girl star , Taylor Momsen. The collection is being sold exclusively in Macy’s stores nationwide.
The suit asks that the collection be yanked from store shelves and that Madonna hand over all profits made to date to LA Triumph.
“Our client and its predecessor have been continually selling similar clothes in similar retail outlets at similar price points under their Material Girl brand since at least 1997 and Madonna and her new-found company do not have the right to trade in the same space under this brand,” the company’s attorney says in a statement.
It seems to me that Madonna may have her own beef with the company for using her song lyrics to sell clothes for more than a decade.
No comment has been released from the Madonna camp in response to the suit.

the term was a nickname used in the media, not a title or brand. And Madonna has made a career of infringing on others art/work in fact she has been sued and lost in Belgium for “Frozen”, for her “Hollywood” video and for “Swept Away”to mention only 3. This type of law suit against her using an-others “material” is a re-invention of past suits. Its got to suck for her kid, however. How Madonna thinks she is correct in making hundreds of millions on a charity imaging tour giving 6 million to orphans with Aidz in Africa and then purchasing herself a 40 million dollar loft in New York City and dishing out 70 m to a husband is beyond. But she’s very convincing at selling the caring image so people buy into it… She has made a career out of infringing on others livelihoods and work-and should have complained in the 90′s about “Material Girl”. This is her karma for ripping off artists for years and now it infects her daughter as well. Imagine that. I hope she wins to show how unoriginal Americans really are or care. And is it true a slew of songs she released were knock off’s of others previous work, such as “Deep In Vogue” and “Like A Virgin”??? Supposedly Madonna is inspired by everyone elses original idea’s- obviously her own creation or experience wasn’t good enough….hiccup
is the church planning on suing her for using the title of Christs mother?????..she’s so spiritual and yogalike.
