Actress Mae Whitman, a regular on NBC’s dramedy Parenthood, is taking on a new role: Roxy Richter, the evil goth ex-girlfriend of Michael Cera’s Scott Pilgrim in the new movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. And while the mild-mannered 22-year-old is used to playing roles that are more suited towards her personality, she claims that playing such a different character was good for her.
What is it about Roxy that took Whitman out of her “comfort zone”?
Whitman claims that this role was based on “fear and anger,” two emotions that are difficult for the actress to find. In addition, there are some fight scenes between her character and Scott Pilgrim in the movie that left her pretty beat up. But she was up for the challenge, especially because it meant working with her Cera, her on-screen boyfriend from Arrested Development, and someone she considers a close friend.
