Not every celeb mom is obsessed with looking cover-girl perfect all the time – and thank goodness for that.
Ever since Uma Thurman had her baby daughter a month and a half ago, she’s all but gone out of her way to go against every Famous Actress-Mom cliche. No rounds of magazine and morning-show interviews burbling about how excited she is, no launch of a kiddie clothing line or a mom blog, no pictorial on how she regained her slender figure three seconds after giving birth.
Instead, we see brief glimpses of the Kill Bill star as she goes about her day – as she did here in New York, taking her daughter to a doctor’s checkup. Instead of a throng of assistants and nannies, Uma was accompanied by her older daughter, 14-year-old Maya Thurman-Hawke. Rather than tote her in a $1,500 state-of-the-art stroller, Uma carried her swaddled infant in her arms. And far from perfectly polished, she kept it simple with a comfortable sweater and jeans and no makeup – exactly what the rest of us would do if we’d been up half the night nursing, diapering and lullabying.
Uma and her boyfriend, Arpad Busson, haven’t even revealed their new daughter’s name yet! A far cry from folks like Snooki, who announced little Lorenzo‘s name weeks ago, or other celebs who coyly drop hints (it’s old-fashioned! it just fits!) up until the birth date.
Then again, no one ever accused Uma of being like other actresses. From her unconventional childhood to her variety of movie roles to her shyness about her beauty, she’s always been her own person. What a wonderful example for her little girl as she grows and finds her own way!
