It was a sad day today in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as MaLinda Sapp, the late wife of gospel singer and pastor Marvin Sapp was laid to rest at her funeral. MaLinda endured an 18-month long battle with colon cancer, and ultimately lost her fight on September 9th.
Even when she was at the end of the road, MaLinda remained devoted to her family, and put their feelings before her own. During the funeral service today, Dr. Sandra Riley said that MaLinda would call her during the last weeks of her life and ask for her to please “stick with Marvin” and “keep him encouraged.” Riley also added that her fondest memory of MaLinda is “how she loved her family.”
Many notable people attended the funeral today, including the Reverend Jesse Jackson. Of MaLinda’s passing, he said, “You’ve lost a lot but you have a lot left in these babies. God Bless you and keep the hope alive.” He no doubt offered those kind words to comfort Marvin and his children.
One of MaLinda Sapp’s friends said that she was eternally devoted to helping people in need, especially children, during her lifetime. She said, “MaLinda knew where the struggling and hurting children were. I believe that is one of MaLinda’s legacies and I am going to carry her legacy on for her.”
MaLinda Sapp will be missed, but her honor, strength, and selflessness will live on through those who knew and loved her.
