There was a lot of tongue-wagging and finger-shaking going on yesterday over Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson‘s appearance on the Dr. Drew Show. In the interview, Alana pretended to nod off as the host asked her questions, and when Dr. Drew asked whether she liked being on TV, the young reality star said, “No!” and added that she didn’t like fans coming up to her.
Enough, cried critics. It was fun while it lasted, but it’s obvious this poor child has to get out of the spotlight before she goes all Lindsay Lohan on us.
Well, hold on just a pig-foot-bobbing moment. Alana’s mother, Mama June Shannon, has a word or two to say to everyone about the whole affair.
On Honey Boo Boo’s official Facebook fan page, which she and a friend run, June says that what viewers saw on the show wasn’t the whole story. “They didn’t show the other part of that,” she posted yesterday. “They edited out the rest like most news and media does to get a reaction out of ppl.”
June explains that after Alana gave her grouchy answer to Dr. Drew, she said, “I’m just kidding. I LOVE seeing myself on TV, but I don’t like when people take pictures of me.” By that, June quickly adds, “she was meaning the paparazzi not fans.”
During their recent trip to L.A. on a press junket, Alana was playing in the fountains by the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but so many photographers followed her that the fountains had to be turned off. That didn’t sit well with the Georgia youngster.
June says that having their lives filmed for Here Comes Honey Boo Boo hasn’t harmed her family, and that she’d be the first to call it quits if it did. She writes:
…she is 7 and yes some days she wants to b left alone like anyone does but trust me if she hated being on tv I would b the first to stop production period cause my kids r #1 so I hope this clears up some of the questions from the interview…
It’s also possible that Alana’s crankiness on the show was health-related. According to another of June’s posts, she’s currently fighting a case of the croup related to her frequent seasonal allergies.
The TLC show has resumed filming again for its second season. Three holiday-themed episodes will also be airing in January.
What do you think? Is Alana truly enjoying her 15 minutes of fame?
