Maria Shriver divorce news hits this afternoon, as outlets are reporting that Shriver filed for divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger today in Los Angeles Superior Court.
No big surprises here.
The divorce filing comes two months after Schwarzenegger admitted to an affair with housekeeper Mildred Baena that resulted in a child.
Maria Shriver cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for divorce.
What happens to the kids now that Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger are getting divorced?
Shriver is seeking shared custody of their minor children – Patrick is 17 and Christopher is 13. Shriver and Schwarzenegger also have two older children, Katherine, 21, and Christina, 19.
The shared custody agreement will give the kids time with both parents, something that already seems to be in place, given that the kids have been spotted with Shriver and Schwarzenegger at different times.
Maria has also requested spousal support; they reportedly do not have a prenuptial agreement, so their assets will be split 50/50 under California law.
At the heart of it, it seems like Shriver and Schwarzenegger are still working to be good parents to their kids. At the time they announced their split, they issued the following statement: “At this time, we are living apart, while we work on the future of our relationship. We are continuing to parent our four children together. They are the light and the center of both of our lives.”
