Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit? While it’s long been rumored that Martin Freeman would play the role of Bilbo, The Hobbit casting news has finally been confirmed.
Is this good news for Hobbit fans?
I’m pretty excited about the Martin Freeman Hobbit casting news, but I’d love to hear what you all think.
I was a huge fan of Martin Freeman on the BBC version of The Office (you know, the original Office?). Martin Freeman played Tim Canterbury with deadpan perfection, delivering some of the best expressions to the camera and paving the way for American Office’s counterpart, Jim (John Krasinski).
Plus, I think Martin Freeman has the right look for Bilbo Baggins – and I’m not sure if that’s a compliment or not, but there’s something a bit Hobbit-ish about his look.
You may have also seen celebrity dad Martin Freeman in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Love Actually, and Hot Fuzz too – he’s really a versatile and talented actor, so no doubt he’ll shine in The Hobbit.
Director Peter Jackson said in a statement that Martin Freeman is “intelligent, funny, surprising, and brave — exactly like Bilbo,” and noted that “despite the various rumors and speculation surrounding this role, there has only ever been one Bilbo Baggins for us.”
What do you think of the Martin Freeman casting news? Will he be a good Bilbo Baggins?
