Should Who-ville be nervous? After all, Matt Damon tells this week’s Parade magazine that being a dad has made him a bit like the Grinch.
…In a good way, that is.
“The only way I can describe it – it sounds stupid, but – at the end of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, you know how his heart grows, like, five times its size?” he explains. “Everything is full; it’s just full all the time.”
The beneficiaries of Matt’s overflowing heart are his four daughters, Stella, Gia, Isabella and Alexia. Alexia, 13, is his wife Luciana’s daughter from a previous marriage, and he says he “jumped into the deep end” by becoming an instant stepfather. The star of We Bought a Zoo says life is anything but a zoo for him, thanks to his laid-back, drama-free lifestyle. “I’ve been left alone, even by the paparazzi, because what sells is sex and scandal. Absent that, they really don’t have much interest in you. I’m still married, still working, still happy.”
He maintains his privacy well – especially compared to some of his friends who can’t even sneeze or frown without the press reporting that they’re deathly ill or headed for divorce. “Brad and Angie, there’s much more pressure on them than there is on me,” he says. “He [Pitt] asked me what my everyday is like. I said, ‘Well, I grab the kids from ‘school, and then we go over to the park.” And he was just looking at me like, ‘How can you do that?’ Because he can’t.”
That’s not to say Matt doesn’t get his share of fan adoration. The magazine’s website includes an anecdote about the Damons celebrating John Krasinski‘s birthday with dinner, drinks and a night of karaoke. “We sang everything; we hadn’t been out in a long time,” he remembers. “And Lucy told me the next day, ‘Our whole night was tweeted by people.’ ”
He also maintains his modest image by not taking roles that require gratuitous topless scenes. “I try to stay away from the beefcake shots,” Matt says.
But if you ask us, being a loving dad is pretty darn hot, no matter how many layers he wears.
