Some of Hollywood’s top actors have enjoyed equal success in other areas of the business, such as producing, writing and directing. It’s a great way to expand their reach in the industry (not to mention adding more $ to the coffers).
But Matthew McConaughey has no such ambitions – he’d rather have the flexibility to be with his family.
At Sundance, he told a reporter from E!Online that he enjoys “being an actor for hire,” although he’s been offered the opportunity to produce projects.
“When you’ve got family, you have to pick your extracurriculars,” he explained. “Whoever has kids knows that, man. You have to pick and choose and go, ‘Wait – which is the one I really wanna do because I ain’t watching all the Saturday’s football and I’m not watching all of Sunday’s.’ I’m not going to be a kayaker, a snow skier and a marathon runner. No, you gotta zero in when you got kids and a family.”
Matthew’s family just expanded a few weeks ago with the birth of son Livingston. He and his wife, Camila Alves, also have 4-year-old Levi and 3-year-old Vida.
He told E! not long after his baby’s birth that there isn’t “a big history” behind their son’s name. But back in biblical times, it was common to take a name based on one’s profession. “So I’m going with the art of living.”
Putting his family before work? Matthew really has mastered the art of living.
