Mayor Bloomberg Defends Beyonce and Jay-Z's VIP Baby Treatment

Beyonce and Jay-Z are being defended by Mayor Bloomberg for their VIP treatment at Lenox Hill Hospital.

While many fans, city dwellers, and other celebrities such as Tina Fey are not happy with the VIP treatment that Lenox Hill Hospital gave to Beyonce and Jay-Z as they welcomed their baby daughter Blue Ivy Carter into the world, Mayor Bloomberg is coming to the couple’s defense.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Bloomberg was asked by various attendees about the star treatment the duo received. “If [the hospital] got paid a lot of money and it let them provide services to other people who don’t have insurance or can’t afford it, I’m not so sure it’s a bad thing,” he said, looking at it from another angle. “Full-paying patients are very valuable to hospitals in this day and age.”

So what about the accusations that parents were unable to see their children while Beyonce and Jay-Z were shacked up on the entire fourth floor of the hospital? “No security plan that we or the Carters’ security team put in place would have prevented or delayed families from gaining access” to their children, he said.

Maybe it’s a feeling of comfort to know that not every celebrity who checks into Lenox Hill Hospital gets such VIP treatment.

“My celebrity treatment at Lenox Hill involved taking a group breastfeeding class in a closet,” Tina Fey joked on the Today show this morning.

“The nurses at Lenox Hill are fantastic. They are the best. It’s a New York City hospital room! There’s like an ATM machine in the corner. It’s not fancy.”
