Meet Honey Boo Boo's New Pet!

Alana and Nugget.

You’d better…um…Rhode Island Redneckognize?

Reality TV star Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson has a new animal companion. On her official Facebook page, she posed for this picture, with a message reading, “Meet Alana’s new pet NUGGET her pet chicken yes I said chicken.”

Honey Boo Boo has already shown unusual taste in pets. As viewers of her show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, know, she used to have a pet pig named Glitzy. But the little porker’s constant squealing and high-maintenance ways proved to be too much for Alana and her mom, June Shannon.

Already Alana is devoted to her bird friend.

According to her FB site (run by June and her friend Bobbie), “Her and Nugget have become very attached this weekend.” Although Nugget has a coop outside their McIntyre, GA, home, she also has an indoor birdcage where Alana insists on keeping the little chicken at night. You can see Nugget in her cage in a number of other photos on the page.

Will Nugget be a keeper? Many people do keep chickens for the eggs, for breeding or for show. They’re not quite as cuddly as a dog or cat, though. The molting feathers can get messy. And when hens do their business – well, let’s just say you don’t want to leave their cage uncleaned for too long.

The show is taping its holiday specials and second season now, so fans will find out soon enough whether Nugget becomes a permanent part of the family or, like Glitzy, ends up getting face time with Anderson Cooper.
