It looks like the American citizens weren’t the only ones who were shocked–and pretty scared–when John McCain selected Sarah Palin as his running mate back in the 2008 Presidential elections. McCain’s own daughter, Meghan, was none too happy about her dad’s pick.
While a guest on Jay Leno yesterday, McCain said she was “panicked” when her dad, the Arizona senator, announced Palin would be his running mate. “I found out an hour before I went on stage with her,” McCain said, while promoting her new book, Dirty, Sexy, Politics. “I think they were scared I would say something or whatever. Like the rest of the country, I had no idea who she was and I was actually crying on the bus on the way to the rally.”
McCain said she hoped Palin didn’t have any “skeletons in the closet” at the time–does a pregnant teenage daughter count? Since the announcement, she has been pretty candid about her feelings toward Palin–and they still aren’t positive; she even described the former Vice Presidential candidate at one time as a “time bomb.”
In her book, McCain addressed the selection of Palin and the way the campaign manager, Steve Schmidt, handled it: “How the Palin selection process and announcement had been handled seemed to highlight things that were innately wrong with our campaign and with the tactics of Steve Schmidt.”
Needless to say, McCain isn’t planning to support Palin if she chooses to go for the Presidency in 2012. “Right now I am team Romney,” she said.
