Melissa Gorga Helps Hurricane Sandy Victims - and How You Can, Too! (Photos)

The Gorga family is still without power.

It’s hard to believe that an entire week has passed since Hurricane Sandy swept through the East Coast and left millions devastated.  What’s not hard to believe is the tremendous outpouring of support and donations that have come in since then.

But this crisis is far from over. Tens of thousands of people are still without power – or homes. And even when electricity is restored to the area, it will take months to clean and rebuild.

Some famous families were personally affected by the hurricane, among them Real Housewives of New Jersey‘s Melissa Gorga. At this writing, she still has no power in her home. When kids farther west were going out trick-or-treating on Halloween, hers were huddled in the living room in blankets and hats.

But Melissa knows that many other families in New Jersey and elsewhere are much worse off than hers is. She’s been filling her Twitter account with appeals for donations of goods, money and time, and spending her days in her local intermediate school helping with the collection effort.

Over the weekend, she and a friend managed to give their children a little taste of normalcy by holding a small Halloween costume party. It wasn’t the fun round of trick-or-treating they’d hoped for, but under the circumstances, it was more than enough.

Even if you don’t live in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut, there are still plenty of ways for you to help the hurricane victims. Here are just a few organizations doing their part and then some:

Red Cross (You can also text the word “Redcross” to 90999 to make a $10 donation.)

Gowanus Canal Conservancy

You can order supplies to be sent directly to collection spots here at Amazon’s registry.

And more information can be found here.

Meantime, take a look at Melissa’s newest pictures here – and heed her call to donate, both now and in the weeks to come. So many need our help. Don’t forget them.
