Michelle Duggar Tells Us Shes "Actively Trying" for a 20th Baby: Should She Stop?Joanna Mazewski
Despite the fact that Michelle Duggar is 47, has 19 kids and three grandchildren, and went through two miscarriages, the reality television mom says that yes, she and her husband Jim Bob Duggar are “actively” trying for a 20th child.
My question, of course, is … why?
In an interview with Celebrity Baby Scoop, the First Lady of the Maternity Ward says that she hopes a baby will turn the “No Vacancy” sign on in her womb very soon:
“I would hope, but we are not expecting right now. I would be so grateful if the Lord blessed us with another one. We’re trying at this point and we shall see if that is a possibility. If not, we are so thankful and grateful for the ones that God has given us so far. We are also definitely enjoying our grandbabies! They are so precious!”
And as far as what she has to say to all of those people who think she and Jim Bob should stop multiplying because the lines at our local DMVs are long enough as it is, she had this to say:
“I think I’ve shared that in the past before. We have studied it and I believe that there is a misconception about overpopulation. I think that the whole mindset of overpopulation is really overrated. A few years back, we stated that the whole population of the world could be stood shoulder-to-shoulder in Jacksonville. That may have changed a little bit since we’ve heard that statistic.”
Now, I don’t have 21 people living in my house, but I do have two children, two pets, one husband, and three blogs to write on a daily basis — and on some days, all I want to do is go FAR FAR AWAY so I can regain my sanity. And while I love my one-on-one time that I spend with my children, I couldn’t imagine doing that times 10 or 20.
There’s a difference between being blessed and being motivated to continue expanding your family, especially at Michelle’s age and with her unfortunate experience of having two miscarriages in the past. Are our bodies built to go through pregnancy and birth year after year as Michelle has done? What I would like to know is, does her uterus ever talk to her and say, “Hey, can I cash in my vacation days here?” Does she ever get any signals from her body that tell her 19 pregnancies might have been enough and that a 20th might put her over the edge? Really, is Michelle Duggar Superwoman? Some days, I can’t even function without having everyone leave me alone for a good 10 minutes. Ten minutes so I can shut off, rewind, and flip through my InTouch Weekly without someone begging me to fix Barbie’s arm for the tenth time in a row or get glitter out of her hair.
Michelle Duggar is a mother and a woman and, most importantly, a human being. I wonder what her husband Jim Bob would say if he had the chance to experience the pain Michelle went through during one of her births. I’m sure he’d probably say: “Yeah, thanks hun, but two kids is about enough. How about we just spoon tonight?”
Tell us Babble readers, what do you think? Should Michelle Duggar go for the gold with a 20th child, or is it time to retire the world’s most overworked womb?
