Michelle Obama: No More Babies For Me!Shana Aborn
People have an annoying way of assuming that when a mom has one or two children, she’s hoping to – or planning to – have more as soon as possible. They also assume that when her children are of the same gender, she’s “secretly hoping for a boy” or “regrets not having a little girl.”
So when you’re a First Lady who has “only” two children and “only” has daughters, you have to expect a lot of rumors and questions about adding another child to the mix.
Michelle Obama answered that question once and for all during a CBS This Morning interview with Gayle King.
King confessed that she’s “still wishing for a baby boy” for the family, to which Mrs. Obama replied, “There’ll be no other children in the White House. I can officially make that announcement here.”
Maybe it’s just as well, because a new baby would be just one more person for the First Parents to embarrass once he’s a tween.
For Sasha, seeing her mom sing and dance is enough to make her wish she could crawl under a rock. “When we’re in a place somewhere and I want to get Sasha to laugh because I think she’s too focused and serious, and you know, if you don’t smile I’m gonna start dancing, she’s like, ‘No, no, don’t dance!’ ” says Mrs. Obama.
The girls also object to having a motorcade roll up to school events. “The other day, Malia was like, ‘Oh no, is Dad coming? Is he bringing all those cars? Really, it’s like the other day they almost hit my teacher.’ ”
After four years, it’s not even cool anymore to have their own movie theater – Sasha and Malia would rather go out to a regular movie house – or to have their famous father come home from a business trip in his own helicopter. “The first couple of times it was interesting,” says Mrs. Obama. “But that’s how he comes home all the time, so it’s like, ‘Yeah, whatever. Dad’s home! I smell the helicopter fuel…I think he’s home.’ ”
Can you blame her for not wanting to expose another child to this humiliating life?
So what do you think? Should the First Lady reconsider her decision? Is a family not complete unless you have one of each gender?
