Miss America Contestants Share Pics of AMAZING Shoes and MORE (Photos)

I don’t know where I’ve been, but I have to confess I’ve never heard of the Miss America event Show Us Your Shoes Parade. But it’s a tradition that’s been going on for over forty years. According to NJ.com, the event started in Atlantic City in 1972. After the Miss America contestants were done rehearsing, people started to scream, “Show us your shoes!” But they were reportedly wearing homely slippers, since they had tired feet from all the rehearsing. “The next year the girls got smart,” Executive Producer John M. Best said. “They started designing shoes and it caught on. They’re the ones who created (the event). This didn’t come from anywhere else, this didn’t come from any other city.”

And it wasn’t just the ladies from every state in our country showing off their fancy footwear. There were also, “4 marching bands, 49 dancing groups, 14 floats and 16 choirs performing on the parade’s nearly 2-mile route down the Atlantic City boardwalk before an estimated 200,000 people.” Wow!

Check out some of these amazing photos from the contestants right here:
