Modern Family star Julie Bowen was not prepared for having twins!

After having a son Oliver, who is now 4, Bowen was not expecting to have not one but two children the second time around!

“I did not want twins as a second go-around. I should have been much more cautious. I should have had … half sex?” the actress, 42, says in the September issue of More magazine.

Once the news was out that she and her hubby Scott Phillips were expecting twins boys, people assumed Bowen, 42, did in vitro fertilization treatments.  But that definitely wasn’t the case!  “Everybody asked me, ‘How many did you put in?’ and I’d be like, ‘Just one penis. Thanks!'” she joked.

Now that her twins John and Gus are two years old,  Bowen manages to balance her working life and her family life, with the help of a nanny during the week.  But come the weekend, she and her husband are on their own.

“I have three kids. I should know how to take care of them,” she said.  “We’d be like, ‘Here comes Saturday. It’s going to be a long-ass weekend’…”All we did was poop patrol for 48 hours. When Monday would come, we’d be like, ‘Thank God.'”

“I’m constantly shocked that I am successfully taking care of this family and that I’m capable of putting their needs in front of mine,” she reveals. “I don’t think I could have done it in my twenties.”

But when she was pregnant, she was afraid. Very afraid!

“At the time I only had one kid, but with two on the way I was always hearing talk about golden mystical baby things and precious time,” she said.   “And I was like, ‘Who the f— are you talking to?!’ If you could see me naked, you would weep. Children are like crazy, drunken small people in your house.”
