New Mom Adriana Lima On A Difficult Birth & Being A MotherMara Siegler
On Nov. 15 she gave birth to daughter Valentina Lima Jaric at only 34 weeks along. She had spent two weeks in bed after discovering she suffered from preeclampsia, a condition in which high blood pressure and protein in the urine develop after the 20th week of pregnancy.
Valentina weighed just 4.4 lbs when she was born and was “smallest [baby] in the whole hospital,” Adriana says. “I wish I had her at home but it wasn’t possible in my case.”
The experience changed her.
“I am, in my head, more mature, more secure. And, you know, it changed completely the priorities in [my] life,” she tells People.
“The best job in the world for me is being a mom. I never thought I could love so much. I always thought, does unconditional love exist? Now I know it does because I feel it.”
