New Mom Tamera Mowry-Housley: "Skin Color Has NOTHING to Do With Love!"

Tamera and AdenTo most of us, this picture is nothing less than heartwarming: a mom – actress Tamera Mowry-Housley – cuddling her perfectly adorable baby Aden. Sadly, there are still some people in the world who disagree.

Why? Because Tamera, a black woman, is married to Fox News correspondent Adam Housley, a white man. And much as we’d like to pretend that prejudice doesn’t exist anymore, four-plus decades after the civil rights movement, it most certainly does.

Today, Tamera posted an open letter to her fans on the Tia & Tamera website (run by herself and twin sister Tia), thanking them for their love and support. The kind words and good wishes have helped her stay strong in the face of hatred.

“When people say ignorant things about Aden’s race or my marriage with his daddy Adam, it’s easy for me to take it personally – even after all this time, my skin isn’t that thick!” she admits.

“But hearing your stories about your own beautiful mixed-race babies and the love you have for their fathers grounds me back to reality and reminds me of the truth: Skin color has NOTHING to do with love.”

Tamera goes on to say that she couldn’t care less whether her son grows up resembling one parent over the other. “He’s my precious baby boy and my only job is to be the best mommy I can be to him while showing him both sides of his heritage,” Tamera writes.

A beautiful sentiment – and it’s a tragedy that not everyone feels the same way.

All we can do is hope that Aden and his generation grow up to move our country a few steps closer to true diversity and acceptance.
