Think of some of the movies with New Years Eve scenes for inspiration. Of course, probably the most famous and most quoted is from When Harry Met Sally, but if you aren’t in the mood for romance, think of a different movie.
Think Bridget Jones’s Diary- the queen of the New Years resolution, as Bridget was talking to Mark Darcy when she first met him: “Ah! New Year’s Resolution: drink less… and quit smoking… and quit talking total nonsense to strangers… actually, quit talking, full stop.”
Her resolutions as she’s writing them in her diary: “Resolution number one: Obviously will lose twenty pounds. Number two: Equally important, will find sensible boyfriend to go out with and not continue to form romantic attachments to any of the following: alcoholics, workaholics, commitment phobics, peeping toms, megalomaniacs, emotional-” Hmmm, we best stop that quote there.
Let’s not forget this gem from Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason: “I truly believe that happiness is possible… even when you’re thirty-three and have a bottom the size of two bowling balls.”
Okay, so she might not have said that last one as a resolution, but it’s something to keep in mind as we head into the New Year anyway.
