Nick Lachey Loves Lullabies and New-Baby Smell!Shana Aborn
Nick Lachey has been psyched about fatherhood ever since he and wife Vanessa learned they were expecting. And now that little Camden John has entered their lives, he’s every inch the awesome dad everyone knew he would be.
He tells this week’s Parade magazine that even though new parenthood is something of a “roller-coaster,” he wouldn’t trade it for the world. “Every day is a new surprise or expression,” he says. “It’s a lot of fun. I try to do everything with the baby. I sing to him. I shush him a lot. It’s all about spending as much [time] as you can.”
In fact, Nick enjoys singing to his little guy so much that it’s inspired him to record a new album – of lullabies! “It’s some originals I’m writing and some classic ones, so it’s a mixture,” he explains. The sleepytime mix should be out early next year.
One of the other fun parts of parenthood is introducing your kids to the important things in life early on – like football. Avid (and we mean avid) Bengals fan Nick has already bought Camden his own team onesie to match his own jersey, and posted a father-son picture to Tide’s Facebook page to help promote the company’s Show Us Your Colors campaign (which includes a contest with Super Bowl tickets as the grand prize).
“It’s a great way to celebrate our love of the game and family as well,” Nick says. “The chance to start sharing those moments and traditions with my son is a really good thing.” (That tradition now includes watching Bengals games together at 10:00 at night!)
Nick has a good role model in brother Drew, who has a son and daughter of his own. Although Drew has said his brother doesn’t need his advice on fatherhood, he did give his big bro one very important tip.
“My brother said smell the baby a lot,” Nick says. “That smell of your newborn baby doesn’t last very long, but it’s something you’ll always remember. So I find myself smelling his head and his neck.”
The other bit of wisdom he’s gotten from other parents is something he already knew.
“The best advice is just love the heck out of your kid and shower them with love.”
He’s already got a good start on that!
