Nicole Richie Opens Up About Her Troubled Past--And Doesn't Blame Her Parentseksarran
While starlets like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton are facing judges and jail-time, reformed party girl (and friend of the other two) is focusing on being a mom. But despite her new, tamer ways, Richie won’t deny that she has a past that resembles Lohan and Hilton’s present.
“People ask me, do I blame Hollywood or my parents?” she said to InStyle U.K. in the October issue. “No, I don’t blame my parents. It had nothing to do with them. I created it and manifested it, and I got myself through it with the help of a lot of great people.” It’s a rather mature outlook, and one that will surely set her up to be a great example for kids, two-and-a-half year-old Harlow and one-year-old Sparrow.
“One thing about me is that I’ve always taken responsibility for my own actions, whether they’re good or bad,” the 28-year-old socialite said. “Even when I was going through my though time, that was a situation that I created.” Could this be a sign that there may actually be hope for people like Lohan and Hilton? Perhaps they can learn from their friend and actually change their ways.
But in terms of Richie’s past, there is one thing she can’t ever erase: her embarrassing tattoo. “I’m a Virgo and the sign is a virgin,” she said. “So, when I was 16, I got the word ‘virgin’ tattooed on my wrist thinking I was so deep and cool. And now I just look really weird having ‘virgin’ written across my wrist–and I have to explain it.” She thinks it’s awkward explaining it to peers–we can only imagine the trouble she’ll face explaining it to her kids.
