Here comes the bride…NOT!
Just a few days ago, the interwebs were all abuzz with rumors that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie would get married this past Saturday at their French chateau. It was supposedly going to be a surprise for their guests, invited to the site on the premise that they were attending an anniversary party for Pitt’s parents.
But People checked with a major photo agency, which confirmed that their photographer saw nothing out of the ordinary going on at their mansion. In fact, there may not even have been an anniversary party at all.
Now the latest buzz is that the nuptials will actually be this Saturday. So naturally, the excitement will build again as the week goes on.
But you know what? We’re kind of hoping this rumor is bogus, too. It would be much more fun – and much truer to their natures – if the superpower couple were to have a quiet ceremony in some unexpected spot, surrounded by their children and attended by just a few family and friends. Then they could take the money that would otherwise be spent on a blowout reception and donate it to one of the humanitarian causes that are so dear to them.
This wasn’t the only rumor we’ve heard over the last week. Several other celebs found themselves the subject of gossip from baby news to breakup bombshells – none of which have proven accurate.
Here are the best stories, and our reasons for breathing a sigh of relief!
Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux 1 of 5
THE RUMOR: The couple split up over Justin's refusal to make a permanent commitment.
THE TRUTH: The "Friends" sweetheart and her beau got engaged on Friday night, totally doing an in-your-face to the tab that made their "breakup" a cover story last week.
WHY WE'RE GLAD: Jen's girl-next-door personality has earned her the loyalty of millions of fans, even when her career has plateaued. Besides, we can't resist a beautiful celeb wedding.

Jada Pinkett Smith 2 of 5
THE RUMOR:She and Will Smith are on the brink of divorce.
THE TRUTH: In this month's issue of Essence, she says, "[N]o. We're not getting a divorce....That's my boo. It's like he's another part of me."
WHY WE'RE GLAD: A 15-year marriage isn't easy to come by in the celeb world, so the Smiths are an inspiration indeed. Besides, we've had quite enough Hollywood divorces this year.
Here's what Jada had to say.
Adele 3 of 5
THE RUMOR: She was tapped to perform at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics.
THE TRUTH: The event featured plenty of talent - but the pop sensation wasn't among them.
WHY WE'RE GLAD: It would have been too much of a risk for the 8-months-pregnant Adele to deal with the crowds and the stress of performing before an audience of millions. (However, it would have been fun to see her get on top of a car and zip after the Spice Girls.)
Tom Cruise 4 of 5
THE RUMOR: He's trying to win Suri's favor in a plot to gain custody.
THE TRUTH: No legal action has been taken by the Cruise camp.
WHY WE'RE GLAD: The sooner Suri's life stabilizes, the better - and a custody battle would only complicate matters. Let Tom treat her to Disney trips - mom Katie Holmes will see that she stays grounded.

Kate Middleton 5 of 5
THE RUMOR: She's pregnant, according to a Parliament member.
THE TRUTH: No comment from the Palace.
WHY WE'RE GLAD: We want a royal baby as much as anyone - especially since this would be Princess Diana's grandchild. But Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge deserve to have the spotlight to themselves, rather than coming in as an afterthought to the Queen's Jubilee and the London Olympics.
