One of the most powerful pushers of literature is the one and only Oprah Winfrey. When she selects a book for her book club, well it’s as good as gold, lots and lots of gold. This Friday she will be announcing the newest novel to receive her coveted endorsement, but an overzealous bookseller leaked the news before Oprah could give the big reveal…opps! So what did Oprah pick?
Huffington Report reports that it is Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. The same Jonathan Franzen who did not appear on the Oprah show nine years ago when she selected his book The Corrections because he “expressed ambivalence over her endorsement.” The Corrections was based on the tale of a family, as is Freedom. Freedom tells the story of a dysfunctional family that is “a wrenching, funny, and forgiving portrait of a Midwestern family.” Amazon said that what “you remember most are the characters, whom you grow to love the way families often love each other: not for their charm or goodness, but because they have their reasons, and you know them.”
Are you an Oprah pick fan? Are you planning on picking up Freedom? You can find out more about the book here.
