The Oscars 2011 will air on ABC this Sunday, February 27th, and will be the 36th Academy Awards show in a row to air on the network. ABC’s contract initially stated that they would only host the Oscars through 2014, but they’ve been granted a six-year extension and will now air the Oscars until 2020.
Tom Sherak, the President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said, “This contract ensures that the Oscar show will be an ABC tradition for 45 consecutive years. ABC is absolutely the very best place for the Academy Awards, a television event that is beloved and watched by millions of movie lovers all over the world.”
Anne Sweeney, President of ABC added, “ABC has been home to the Oscars for many years, having aired a total of 46 of the annual telecasts, so we’re thrilled to announce that this tradition will continue.”
