Our Favorite Olympic Swimmers Who Are Parents (Photos)Joanna Mazewski
No, don’t worry. 17-year-old Missy Franklin is not on this list!
Being both a parent and an Olympic athlete has to be a grueling experience. Not only do you spend about four hours a day swimming in the pool and getting in shape with dry land exercises, but you also have to go home and take care of your family, too! These swimmers not only deserve their medals at the games but at home as well.
One of our favorite celebrity swimmers, Dara Torres, proved all her critics wrong when at age 41 she competed in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics as not only one of the oldest swimmers on the team, but as a mom, too. The same applies to swimmer Brendan Hansen, who at age 30 is actually close to his retirement from the sport but of course that doesn’t slow him down. His wife Martha also has a bun in the oven and is expecting the couple’s first child.
Check out some of our other favorite swimming moms from the past in our photo gallery and tell us what you think. There is no doubt these parents have the endurance both in and out of the water!
