Kids are often smarter than we give them credit for – but often we don’t realize it until they prove it to us. My own children have come up with some brilliant observations about everything from the Tooth Fairy to the nature of the universe.
At the tender age of five, Tori Spelling‘s son, Liam McDermott, is already a master of the witty comeback – as well as a young man wise to the ways of the kinetic energy of boys.
Tori wrote a blog post on her website today about an incident that made her realize how bright her son is, and how quickly he’s growing up.
“A few nights ago it was getting late and it was the kids’ bedtime – okay, that’s a fib,” Tori confesses. “In theory, it was almost their bedtime, but since summer vacation started they’ve been pushing to stay up later and later and, being a working mom, I have to admit I enjoy my evenings with them.”
But despite the late hour, Liam was nowhere near bedtime mode. As is the way of most wired-and-tired kids, he was “borderline crazy-pants,” bouncing off the walls and exasperating his mother.
So what do you suppose he said when Tori ordered him to settle down?
Shrugging, Liam replied, “Mom, this body has a mind of its own!”
Pretty insightful for a five-year-old, huh? “Wow! I had to turn away to hide my smile,” Tori says.
If Liam is this snappy with comebacks now, imagine how he’ll be in a few years – or as a teen. And let’s not forget he has two sisters, Stella and Hattie, and another sib due in September!
How about sharing some of your own kids’ words of wit and wisdom?
