My feet still hurt, I caught some sort of vile cold due to the lack of sleep and hobnobbing, and I came home to piles of laundry and a little girl who missed me a whole lot (and I missed her more than I can say). But you know what? It was all worth it.
Last week I went to the star-studded world premiere of Disney’s Oz: The Great and Powerful and yes, it was awesome. It felt even more special since the premiere just happened to coincide with my birthday, so it was as if Disney was throwing me a great big party, complete with movie stars, glamor and popcorn, just for little old me. And I have a big soft spot for this production, having walked the yellow brick road on a set visit when they were filming, an experience that goes down as one of coolest things I’ve ever seen.
The traditionally red carpet was made over in green and given a yellow brick road appearance, and at the end was a giant, very real, hot air balloon branded with the Oz The Great and Powerful logo.
The stars of the film including Michelle Williams, James Franco, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, Zach Braff and Joey King worked the very long press line along with guests like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tobey Maguire and Donald Faison hand-in-hand with his pregnant wife Cacee Cobb.
It was a very Hollywood evening, with fans screaming on the sidelines, cameras flashing from a wall of paparazzi snapping thousands of photos, and mingling on the red carpet among them was an unlikely group – 25 mommy bloggers. We came from all over the country flying in from Florida, upstate New York, Michigan, Nashville, and Texas, among many other locales. We were 25 strong, all there to be part of the premiere experience, from spending hours deciding what to wear, to photo-bombing Michelle Williams on the red carpet, to sneaking peeks at the stars at the after party (James Franco was immersed in deep discussions, Michelle Williams hung out with BFF Busy Phillips, and Mila Kunis chatted alongside her boyfriend, a very dressed down Ashton Kutcher.)
But glitz and glamor aside, we were all there to sit in a theater and watch a movie – the epic blockbuster-to-be Oz The Great and Powerful, which was gorgeous, grand and, of course, great.
