New Yorkers have been delighting in an early spring this year. This time last year, the skies were gloomy and a dusting of snow was still on the ground. Now, I can look out the window and see a row of white-blossomed trees, daffodils waving in the breeze and robins seeking out their early worms.
I thought the change in climate was some sort of El Nino phenomenon, or all the hot air coming from the campaign trail. But now I know the real reason. Our fair city was just getting ready to welcome Alyson Hannigan, who’s on the talk-show circuit this week, accompanied by husband Alexis Denisof and daughter Satyana. Not even cynical Manhattan would dare darken her perpetually sunny smile by throwing rain or freezing temperatures her way.
Walking around the city must be a challenge, since Alyson is sporting some major baby-bumpage. From the looks of it, she’s getting to third-trimester territory. And she’s feeling it, too. Yesterday, she tweeted, “I know they are there cuz they hurt but I haven’t seen my feet in a long time.”
Undaunted, she put on a pair of comfy shoes and went shopping with her family, smile and style intact. Because, as I believe I have mentioned before, she is Alyson freakin’ Hannigan and nothing gets her down and I would love to be her just for a day, even with the swollen ankles.
(Don’t bother telling me that she goes all Evil Willow at home when no one’s looking. Not buying it. La la la la la, I can’t heeeeaarrr yooou…)
Along the way, Satyana acquired a balloon sculpture. For me, balloon animals will forever remind me of Steve Martin in Parenthood (“It’s…your lower intestine!”), but fortunately Sati has no such associations.
She also had a cute comment to make about one of New York’s popular travel options. Check it out as you go through our gallery.
Enjoy your visit, Aly!
Where to next? 1 of 6After having a family lunch, Alexis, Aly and Satyana did some shopping at Bergdorf Goodman and - where else? - FAO Schwarz.
Wait for the light! 2 of 6Satyana is learning that crossing New York City streets means having a firm grownup hand (or two) to hold onto.
Pronunciation lesson 3 of 6Alyson has been tweeting answers to fans' questions in between TV appearances. Someone asked how to pronounce Satyana's nickname. The answer: "Sah-tee."
Keeping it casual 4 of 6For a spring stroll through NYC, Alyson goes with jeans, a white maternity top, light jacket and sensible flats. Don't you love Satyana's boots?
Who needs a stroller? 5 of 6Alyson's feet may be aching and her tummy big with baby, but when an adorable 3-year-old asks Mommy to carry her, you just don't say no.
Sati’s wish 6 of 6Alyson tweeted this morning's conversation: "Sati 'Mommy I'm wishing!' Me 'What for?' Her 'I'm wishing I could have a taxi of my own. I could be the driver & you can be the passenger!' "
