From Jessica Simpson joining with Weight Watchers following the birth of baby Maxwell to Kourtney Kardashian’s new Us Weekly cover showcasing her speedy 44-pound weight loss, getting back into bikini and skinny-jean shape is big business.
You’d think, then, that Kim Kardashian would have been signing a contract ten minutes after her surprising announcement that she and Kanye West are entering the world of parenthood.
Surprisingly, it hasn’t happened yet. The Huffington Post and other outlets have reported that though a weight-loss deal would seem to be “a sure thing,” no offers have come through.
In fact, both Jenny Craig and Medifast have turned down the chance to have Kim as a celeb spokesperson. The Jenny reps politely explained that Kim doesn’t quite fit their ideal image of an average mom trying to lose the pregnancy pounds.
It’s still early in the pregnancy, so there’s plenty of time for a client to make this Kardashian sister an offer. But would it be such a tragedy if no one did?
New motherhood is such a trying time to begin with. Between the hectic crush of visitors, the endless demands of a newborn and hormones going haywire, a mom is lucky if she gets a chance to bathe, much less hit the gym.
It takes a while for a mother’s body to heal from the nine months of stretched-out flesh and strained muscles. After a c-section, it’s even harder — that’s major surgery, folks. Expecting her to exercise strenuously in such a delicate time is not only unfair, it could also be harmful. And sure, nutritious eating is important, but a restrictive diet is another matter, especially for nursing mothers who already burn a lot of calories every time their baby latches on.
And good gravy, isn’t the poor woman getting enough scrutiny as it is? Between the Kris Humphries marriage fiasco, the relationship with Kanye and just being a Kardashian, Kim’s life is a whirl of tabloid stories and media appearances. It would be nice if she could take a little time to relish this new phase of her life without having to worry about being the next 50-Pound-Weight-Loss-Success.
Heaven knows it would be nice for the rest of us moms to see a famous mother step out with a little extra bulge around her midsection — and not stressing about meeting a crazy size-2 deadline. It would take a lot of pressure off her and us.
Oh, it’s not going to happen…but can’t we just dream for a while?
