Might this be a sign of a mother-son relationship needed to be strengthened? Last month, rapper Drake successfully created a buzz about his wedding to singer Nicki Minaj–even though it was completely false.
Drake used Twitter as his medium of choice to share the fake news, tweeting, “Please refer to @nickiminaj as Mrs. Aubrey Drake Graham and don’t stare at her too long. She’s finally mine.”
The performer even had Minaj on his side, contributing to the hoax. “Yes, it’s true,” the 25-year-old tweeted. “Drake and I tied the knot.” It’s not shocking that the mass amount of fans who follow the two stars on twitter believed the news–why wouldn’t they? It seems stars are always getting secretly hitched and announcing their nuptials–often in rather unconventional ways–after the fact.
But the 23-year-old rapper told People at the MTV Video Music Awards yesterday that his own mother believed the joke. “My mom was actually like, ‘What happened? how did you elope?'” he said. “But we were just joking around. I never thought it would get so out of hand.”
Note to self: If you’re going to pretend to get married and share the news with the Twitterverse, tell mom…first.
