Real Housewife Michaele Salahi’s red-and-gold sari that she wore to the White House was auctioned off for a whopping $7,000. That’s nearly three times more than experts originally expected the infamous Indian gown to sell for! Salahi wore the Sari when she showed up, allegedly uninvited, to the slate dinner for India that was held at the White House last fall.
The only thing more surprising than the high selling price is the identity of the high-bidding buyer, who turned out to be none other than disgruntled salon owner James Packard-Gomez. Gomez co-owns the salon that Salahi visited prior to her White House appearance, and had publicly made statements claiming Salahi still owed him money for work that his salon did for her wedding party.
Despite their tumultuous past, there were reportedly no tense moments between the sari sellers and buyer. All of Gomez’s bidding was done over the phone, and, after he had won, he said, “Michaele got on the phone, crying, thanking me, and [her husband] Tareq got on the phone, too, to thank me.” Most of the proceeds from the sale will benefit two charities, the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Gomez, on the other hand, has big plans for his high-priced purchase, none of which include displaying the garment in his salon. Peculiar, if you ask me! Regardless, we look forward to seeing where this star sari will surface in the future.
