Real Housewives of New York City: Keep the Kids Out of It? Then Why The Battle of the Sweet 16 Parties?
The Real Housewives of New York City have some odd rules. They flaunt their kids in front of the camera as part of their reality show (well most of them do – Sonja keeps her daughter hidden) but they also don’t want anyone to talk about them. Isn’t this a catch 22. Especially when it comes to plot point on the show – the dueling Sweet 16 parties…
While they say “don’t talk about my kids,” they make them fodder by focusing on them in the show – this was made very clear during this last season and during the reunion tapings. It really doesn’t seem like a real coincidence that LuAnn and Ramona had their daughter’s Sweet 16 parties on the exact same night. Add in the very similar themes, and it really seems odd.
And of course this brings up judgments from the moms. Ramona said of LuAnn’s daughter’s party “Why would I put [my daughter] in a club when she’s 16? That’s sending a mixed message. That’s when you get problems with teenagers.” While Ramona got criticized for inviting a slew of her own friends and having boxes upon boxes of pinot grigio delivered to the party.
But these ladies need to choose, if they put their kids on the air then they open themselves (and their children) to things being said about them. As we know, nothing is off limits with the Real Housewives.
Do you think the Real Housewives should keep their kids out of the limelight?
