Over the weekend, The New York Post reported that The Real Housewives of New Jersey Star Teresa Giudice and her husband, Joe, filed papers declaring bankruptcy, claiming to be $11 million in debt. Holy cannoli! $11 million! I guess all those pink limousines and fancy digs and high-heeled crib shoes don’t come cheap.
In all fairness, people make mistakes and the Giudices have four kids under 10—Gia, Gabriella, Milania and Audriana—so their situation is pretty serious. The papers, filed in Newark, show that the Giudices make less than $80,000, and owe money pretty much everywhere—on their houses, on credit cards, to stores, to a fertility clinic. The filing may wind up having serious repercussions on their lifestyle and on that of their kids, so it’s pretty sad.
And yet, because it involves Teresa and the other New Jersey Housewives, as always, there is unintentional comedy.
Enter Dina Manzo.
In an interview with Zap2It, Manzo denies the story, claiming “I think I would know if she was in that kind of trouble. And I think it’s all kind of fabricated by a hater out there.” Really? A hater? Who managed to file bankruptcy paperwork in court? That doesn’t seem very likely. Nonetheless, Manzo went on. “I mean we all have debt here and there. I know my Neiman’s bill would knock your eye out.”
If you can muster up a Jersey accent as you’re reading Manzo’s quote about Neiman Marcus, it’s that much funnier.
Here’s to hoping that Giudice works out her financial situation. And if it helps her any, I think Bravo should triple whatever they are paying her. I could watch these women all day.
