After a long battle with bladder cancer, former Portland Trail Blazers star Maurice Lucas passed away yesterday at age 58. He actually played in the American Basketball Association for 14 seasons before joining the NBA in 1976 and promptly leading the Blazers to an NBA championship, averaging 20.2 points per game.
But he had a beautiful legacy off the court as well, where he and wife Pamela had three children. One of them, David, followed his father into the sport and played basketball for Oregon State University from 2001 to 2005.
And former NBA superstar Bill Walton named his son, Luke, after Maurice Lucas, after the two played together in Portland. Luke Walton now plays for the Los Angeles Lakers.
In recent years, Lucas had been an assistant coach with the Blazers, but he left the team earlier this year to fight for his life.
Leave your remembrances of Lucas below.
