Ron Santo: Son Jeff Santo made a movie about him

The late Ron Santo lived a remarkable life – he played for the Chicago Cubs, announced for his hometown team, and generally lived out his life’s dream. He also boasted something very few dads can say: His son made a movie about him. Son Jeff wrote, co-produced and directed “This Old Cub,” a film that chronicled his father’s lifelong struggle with diabetes, in 2004. You can watch a preview below.

After the film was released, Santo referred to his son as his “right-hand man,” saying he was with him every day and figured why not just film his dad? Santo also had another son, Ron Jr., and two daughters, Linda and Kelly, as well as a grandson.

Did you watch “This Old Cub?” What did you think?

    Linda,

Sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I know he was a famous Cub baseball player who both my father and uncle who were big Cub fans loved….and not just because he was Italian, but first and foremost he was your pop. Carmine Tutera
