CNN’s Rick Sanchez ripped on Jon Stewart during Pete Dominick’s satellite radio show yesterday, calling Jon Stewart, host of The Daily Show, a “bigot.”
Sanchez spoke of “elite, Northeast establishment liberals” who “deep down, when they look at a guy like me, they see a guy automatically who belongs in the second tier, and not the top tier.” Listen to Sanchez’s comments in the video clip.
Then he pointed to Stewart as an offender: “I think to some extent Jon Stewart and [Stephen] Colbert are the same way. I think Jon Stewart’s a bigot. I think he looks at the world through his mom, who was a school teacher and his dad, who was a physicist or something like that. Great, I’m so happy that he grew up in a suburban middle class New Jersey home with everything you could ever imagine.”
When Dominick asked him to clarify, Rick Sanchez pointed to celeb dad Stewart’s limited view of the world, saying Stewart attacks “everybody else who’s not like him.”
Later, Rick Sanchez backtracked, taking back “bigot,” and instead calling Stewart “prejudicial” and “uninformed.”
As Dominick so aptly pointed out, Jon Stewart is a comedian, and his show makes fun of anyone who gives adequate material to keep his audience laughing.
Bottom line: it sounds like Sanchez doesn’t like being the butt of Jon Stewart’s jokes. Something tells me Stewart will be inviting Sanchez to be a guest on his show soon to clear the air.
What do you think of Rick Sanchez’s comments about Jon Stewart? Does he have a point? Or is Stewart just a comedian doing what comedians do?
