Mel Gibson’s soon-to-be-ex-wife, Robyn Gibson, says in a sworn statement to the L.A. courts that Mel Gibson never physically abused her or their seven children. “Mel never engaged in any physical abuse of any kind toward me before, during or after our marriage,” her statement reads, according to TMZ.com. “Mel was a wonderful and loving father.” It’s testimony that will come in handy for Mel in his upcoming court battles, but brings up a few nagging questions.
Mel’s threats against Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of his most recent child, have promised that he’d get physical against her. The threats themselves, however, constitute verbal and maybe emotional abuse, not physical abuse. But abuse is abuse, any way you inflict it. Would Robyn swear that Mel never emotionally or verbally abused her?
Also, if you’ve listened to the tapes of Mel’s threats against Oksana, he sounds dangerously filled with rage. If Robyn never encountered that extreme, vicious side of his personality, what’s happened since their marriage fell apart to bring it out? How does a man drive straight over the brink of sanity? Something must have unleashed this inner Mel Gibson. Maybe it’s alcohol, given that he’s long had a problem with it. Maybe he’d had enough of holding it in, of trying to act like a reputable guy, when at heart, that’s not who he was. What do you think?
