Ron Franklin was pulled from the big Fiesta Bowl play by play on ESPN Radio over the weekend. Why? Because he made some pretty damning and sexist comments to a female colleague. On Friday Ron Franklin called Jeannine Edwards ‘sweet cakes,’ not usually a term for a co-worker. When she told him she was offended he called her a “a-hole.” Niccccce. Not! After the scene was reported to the head honchos of ESPN he was pulled from the game. And today, he is feeling even more of the wrath since the story has made headlines. He has issued an apology saying:
“I said some things I shouldn’t have, and I’m sorry,” Franklin said in a statement issued by ESPN. “I deserved to be taken off the Fiesta Bowl.”
And ESPN said ” “We made a late play-by-play change to the Fiesta Bowl radio team. We’re not going to get into specifics other than to say adhering to our personal conduct policies and showing respect for colleagues are of the utmost importance to our company and we take them extremely seriously.”
Do you think just an apology and being pulled off one game is enough or do you think more serious actions should happen?
