Ron Santo Funeral : Fans Pay Tribute

The Ron Santo funeral was held today. It was last Friday when Santo died at age 70 of complications from bladder cancer.

Yesterday, there was a nine hour visitation for him at Holy Name Cathedral. Thousands of fans showed up. Santo’s coffin was covered by a banner with his name and uniform number.

Speaking at his funeral this morning were Cubs owner Tom Ricketts, Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, and WGN announcer Pat Hughes. Hughes was Santo’s broadcast partner for the past fifteen years.

At noon today, the Ron Santo funeral procession stopped at Wrigley Field. There were more than one thousand fans on hand to take pictures and pay tribute to the Cubs broadcaster.

As the hearse with two number ten flags on it circled the Friendly Confines, fans were lined two and three deep to say goodbye to Ron Santo after his funeral in downtown Chicago.

Ron Santo will be missed by Cubs fans.
