Rosie O'Donnell's Kids Give Their Blessing to Her Christmas Wedding!

Rosie O'Donnell

Rosie's planning Yuletide vows

It’s not always easy for children of divorce to accept that Mom’s in love with someone else. It’s even harder when Mom’s a famous talk-show host whose marriage breakup was splashed all over the tabloids. Happily, though, Us Weekly reports that Rosie O’Donnell‘s four children are thrilled with her engagement to girlfriend Michelle Rounds.

A source told the magazine that O’Donnell announced her engagement to the studio audience at the Rosie Show on Friday. She added that she and Rounds will exchange vows over the Christmas holidays (presumably in New York, where the couple is based and where same-sex marriage was legalized earlier this year). The announcement caps a whirlwind courtship that began when O’Donnell, 49, met Rounds, a 28-year-old NYC headhunter, in a coffee shop just three months ago.

RadarOnline reports that O’Donnell’s children with ex-wife Kelli Carpenter – Parker, Chelsea, Blake and Vivienne – have all met Michelle and give their thumbs-up to the marriage. Since O’Donnell’s amicable split from Carpenter, the children have divided their time between both parents, who vowed to put family first. O’Donnell told Oprah last year, “[I want them to know] that they can survive challenges, even unexpected ones that are terrifically sad. …There is always something new in the future, and you don’t know what it’s going to be, but it’s got the potential for tremendous joy.”

Even Carpenter’s parents approve of their ex-daughter-in-law’s new relationship – in fact, they all plan to spend Christmas together this year. “It’s all positive, and it seems like they’re doing well,” says Carpenter’s mother, Melanie Safer. “The kids are happy and adjusting really well.”

Not so happy, however, are Rounds’s parents. Unaware that their daughter was gay until her relationship with O’Donnell became public, they’ve expressed their disapproval of the relationship. (Don’t count on seeing them in the wedding pictures.)

Maybe they could take a lesson in acceptance and love from Rosie’s kids.
