Did you get up early to watch the Royal Wedding this morning? Billions of people around the world did, as they couldn’t wait to finally watch Prince William and Kate Middleton become the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Kate Middleton absolutely wowed the masses with her stunning wedding dress, designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. Although the ceremony was very traditional and proper, one couldn’t help but notice just how in love Prince William and Kate Middleton are. They are the real deal, royalty or not.
The Royal Wedding may have been witnessed by billions of people, but there were many hidden messages and secrets within the day that you may not know about.
One question that many people were asking is why Prince William did not turn around in Westminster Abbey to watch his bride walk down the aisle with her father. The answer to that one is quite simple. It’s tradition for the groom to be the last person to see the bride. William had to stand there in anticipation of Kate’s arrival at his side for a long four minutes!
Kate Middleton’s wedding dress was no doubt the best kept secret of the Royal Wedding, but another secret that was revealed today surrounded her bouquet. Each flower in the arrangement had a hidden message. Kate carried Lily-of-the-Valley for the return of happiness, Hyacinth for the constancy of love, Ivy for fidelity, Myrtle as the symbol of marriage and love, and also Sweet William, which stands for gallantry but was also likely a tribute to the groom.
Kate’s bouquet also held another secret. The sprigs of Myrtle that were used were from the same plant as the flowers that Queen Elizabeth carried in her bouquet in 1947, and Queen Victoria carried in 1845.
Kate Middleton’s bridesmaids each had a hidden message as well. Each had her name and the date of the wedding embroidered by hand into her dress.
One last fun secret of the Royal Wedding was in Kate’s jewelry. The tiara she wore was a gift from Queen Elizabeth, and the earrings she wore were a gift from her parents. It is so touching that out of all the many jewels she had access to, she chose earrings that tied her to her beloved family.
