Russell Crowe Twitter Rant: Circumcision, Abortion Opinions Draw Heat; Crowe Apologizes

Russell Crowe Twitter circumcision rant abortion debate

Russell Crowe shares opions about circumcision on Twitter

Russell Crowe has some strong opinions about circumcision and abortion – and sharing them on Twitter opened up a firestorm!

Russell Crowe took to Twitter last night to share his thoughts on male circumcision, tweeting, “Circumcision is barbaric and stupid. Who are you to correct nature? Is it real that GOD requires a donation of foreskin? Babies are perfect.”

As expected, some fans supported him, while others noted reasons like hygiene as cause enough to have a baby circumcised.

Crowe responded,”Hygenic? Why don’t you sew up your a** then?”

Russell Crowe also called upon his “Jewish friends,” in an attempt to appeal to putting an end to the circumcision tradition: “many jewish friends, I love my Jewish friends, I love the apples and the honey and the funny little hats but stop cutting yr babies @eliroth”

Crowe noted that he will “always stand for the perfection of babies, i will always believe in God, not man’s interpretation of what God requires.”

It seemed the anti-circumcision rant was over when Crowe tweeted: “last of it, if u feel it is yr right 2 cut things off yr babies please unfollow and f**k off, I’ll take attentive parenting over barbarism.”

A bit harsh, perhaps?

Then Crowe shared his position on abortion, tweeting, “Abortion should always be a woman’s choice, there is no benefit to ‘forced’ motherhood…you got it? don’t like it then bye.”

This morning, Russell Crowe tweeted about the right to opinions, and the ability to share them on Twitter: “This is a great forum for communication. I, like any human have my opinions and you all have yours, thank you for trusting me with them.”

In the end, Crowe offered up his apologies, noting that he “wasn’t intending offense, certainly wasn’t intending to provide fodder for lazy journalists. I can’t appologize for my heartfelt belief.”

Later, Crowe tweeted, I have a deep and abiding love for all people of all nationalities, I’m very sorry that I have said things on here that have caused distress,” adding, “My personal beliefs aside I realize that some will interpret this debate as me mocking the rituals and traditions of others. I am very sorry.”

What prompted Russell Crowe to take off on this anti-circumcision rant? Seems a fan asking for his opinion on the subject set off the debate.

Do you agree with anything Russell tweeted? Do you think his comments will cost him any fans?
