Let others have their lavish soirees, drunken revels and freezing kisses by the Times Square ball. On New Year’s Eve, Sarah Jessica Parker prefers to stay close to home.
The mom of three with husband Matthew Broderick – 9-year-old James Wilkie and 2-year-old twins Tabitha and Loretta – told Contact Music she’ll spend tomorrow night quietly with family and friends. “It’s not radical, no big celebrations, just being with people you know and love.”
With her children still so young, SJP is more the carry-a-toddler type than a Carrie Bradshaw. She notes that her life is far different from the one of her single-mom character in New Year’s Eve.“I can certainly relate to the care and concern she feels about her daughter, but right now my children very much want me around,” she says.
“They’re interested in my presence, whereas my character’s daughter is really illustrating quite clearly that she wants to be an independent person.”
Parker is also content to avoid the limo-and-bodyguard lifestyle. “My life has changed in some ways, but living in New York, you’re out on the street every day. I go to the grocery store on my own, I take my children to school, I find a cab, I jump on the subway…”
Still, it must be nice not to have to worry about any 2012 fare hikes.
