When I had a miscarriage a few years ago, I was surprised by how few resources there were for women (and men especially men) coping with the aftermath of something that’s so frighteningly common. So I was thrilled to hear about Lisa Ling’s Secret Society of Women, the new web site that will allow women to share their miscarriage experiences anonymously and draw support from one another. Click on for the link.
Some people are already criticizing the name. I disagree. In actuality, it’s perfect. Once you have a miscarriage, you discover a surprising number of women you know have had them too. They come out of the woodwork to offer their support, and it’s wonderful … until you all fade back into the woodwork and don’t talk about your “secret” again.
Hopefully Ling can use her celebrity to ensure that we do start talking about this more. That it no longer has to be secret. That we can mourn and move on together, instead of trying to do it by ourselves. (Here’s the link.)
