Fans cheered at the long-awaited news that Giuliana and Bill Rancic are expecting their first child together via a gestational surrogate. After years of hope, fear and tears – and a long ordeal that included numerous IVF attempts, a miscarriage and Giuliana’s battle against breast cancer – it’s a happy ending to rival any fairy tale.
The couple are already sharing their journey on their show, Giuliana & Bill, including their emotional reactions to learning their surrogate was pregnant and to seeing their unborn child on an ultrasound screen for the first time.
But are they going to share a little too much information with their viewers?
In an interview with Us Weekly, the couple says that they’re not totally opposed to the idea of letting a film crew into the delivery room to capture their baby’s entry into the world. But they haven’t made up their minds just yet.
“We’re not sure about the cameras, though,” says Giuliana. “I like seeing it on other shows, but we want our carrier to be totally relaxed. If anything, we might have a flip cam, but we might even keep that for ourselves.”
I don’t know about you, but I’m kind of hoping they go with the keep-it-for-ourselves option. Birth is such a special time, and I’ve always found those maternity shows rather intrusive – as if I were interrupting an intimate moment between parents and child just by tuning in.
Giuliana has already shared enough of her life: Many women don’t tell even their closest friends that they’ve had a miscarriage or that they’ve undergone a double mastectomy. Why not leave this intimate moment just between the parents and the woman who helped their dream come true?
What do you think? Cameras or no?
